Darcy Leon is an experienced, board certified nurse practitioner with a background helping adult clients and their families heal from a variety of mental health issues. Darcy believes that good communication between herself and her clients will improve outcomes, and this has been confirmed in practice. As a nurse practitioner, she has a whole-person approach to treatment, and promotes wellness in all areas of her clients’ lives.
As a provider, her main focus is psychopharmacology (medications). She is passionate about teaching her clients about their medications, and works hard to help them find treatments that work the best for them individually. Darcy stays up to date on new research, is active in pharmacology organizations and publications, and gladly answers questions her clients have about any of their medications. In most cases she finds that people will benefit from psychotherapy, as well as medication, to more fully achieve their goals.
Her primary areas of expertise are major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, ADHD, and OCD. She also has a background in treating the psychiatric complications of traumatic brain injury, substance use disorders, and PTSD. She has experience treating many illnesses in addition to these, and welcome any new clients to work with her.
Darcy received her MS and BS degrees at Columbia University, and is board certified in the state of New York. In the recent past she worked in outpatient mental health services at St. Vincent’s Hospital Westchester, and as a psychiatric consult on the TBI and stroke units at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. Her previous career was as a classical bassoonist, and a passion for music remains a large part of her life and practice.
