Craig A Lavin, DNP, PMHNP-BC is a Board-Certified Doctor of Nursing Practice in Psychiatric-Mental Health practicing out of Carmel Psych’s Bronx location. Dr. Lavin acquired his education and training at New York University and Columbia University in the City of New York.

He has practiced out of the New York State Psychiatric Institute, on an inpatient unit specializing in the treatment of first-episode psychosis; The Fortune Society in Long Island City, helping formerly incarcerated individuals reenter society; and The Stein Center at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers, serving an acute, high-risk outpatient population, where he also performed psychiatric emergency room and medical floor evaluations and consults.

Dr. Lavin is well versed in psychopharmacological medication management and individual supportive psychotherapies including Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral, Rational Emotive Behavioral, and Acceptance & Commitment Therapies. He also has vast experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of Generalized/Social Anxiety, Panic, Depressive, Mood, Affective, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Autism Spectrum, Eating, Obsessive-Compulsive, Personality, Substance Use, Post-Traumatic Stress, and Attention-Hyperactivity Deficit Disorders.

Dr. Lavin is currently pursuing continuing education in the treatment of trauma and the implementation of Integrative therapies.

His empathetic, holistic, biopsychosocial approach to evidence-based care endeavors to provide a positive, patient-centered, therapeutic experience. An approach that focuses on the specific needs of each individual through compassionate inquiry and an unflinching respect that honors where the patient is coming from, and meets the patient where they are at in the present, to facilitate an individual’s goals, so that, through this collaborative experience, the patient may arrive at the place they envision for themselves, where they may accomplish what they deem necessary to lead their best possible life.
