About Anna Kimelfeld, PMHNP-BC

Wellness is not a state but is, instead, a pursuit and it implies continued growth which will blossom in a supportive environment of trust. Anna Kimelfeld's goal, as a trained ANCC board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, is to partner with her patients and assist them during their authentic journey to life-fulfillment, improved performance, and resilience by providing an individualized approach to treatment. She will use evidence-based psychopharmacology, which is organically integrated with lifestyle modification, mindfulness, dietary recommendations, and brief solution-focused and interpersonal therapies. Anna believes in importance of psychoeducation and invests time and effort to review with her patients the overall care strategy, as well as mechanism of action of their medications and offer practical tips to improve adherence while minimizing side effects. Even though feelings of being vulnerable, stressed, restless, unsatisfied, fragile, fatigued, anxious, depressed, or constantly overwhelmed are common, embracing the next step and accepting the need for professional help is a truly courageous choice. Anna commends her patients for this assertive decision and does her very best to foster our collaborative success. In applicable situations, she also incorporates some elements of intermodal expressive art therapy and uses the universal language of creativity (movement, relaxation, painting, colors, sounds, writing and other modalities) to help patients unlock individualized potential, discover inner strength and acquire new coping skills.

Anna obtained her RN, BSN degree from NYU, has two Master’s degrees from Hunter College (CUNY) and dual ANCC board certification as an adult nurse practitioner (ANP) and psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP), as well as a doctoral degree (DNP) from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of NJ (UMDNJ). As a part of her doctoral training, she authored a research study that focused on dementia care and the mental health needs of family caregivers. Anna has a particular interest in caring for geriatric patients and their loved ones in view of the challenges related to caregiving. She is also passionate about helping people in leadership positions to manage the stresses they may face in a highly-charged professional environment, and can also help to address the needs of her health care professional colleagues who have a high risk of burnout and frequently ignore their health while caring for others. Anna's background of over 10 years of experiences as an adult nurse practitioner (ANP) caring for adult and geriatric clients in primary care and extensive experiences in health care leadership roles have afforded her an ability to appreciate the interconnectedness of medical, psychiatric and life-style aspects of her patient’s health and wellbeing. In formulating treatment approaches, Anna addresses a person as a whole and pays particular attention to an individual’s professional, family, and cultural background. She look forward to working with you.
